Weight loss
Millions of people around the globe are overweight and trying to lose weight. Most of them get tired and frustrated easily by hearing and reading several articles about dieting tips. But this doesn't mean that sustainable weight loss is impossible and that to manage it (see more on Weight Loss Management) . It's possible provided the necessary direction and accurate roadmap. Yeah!!! It's possible until and unless you are ready to face and tackle any challenges that comes in your way during your journey. Now let's see what does weight loss actually means.
Simply to say, weight loss means nothing but decrease in the body weight. It may be either voluntary (under our will) or involuntary (not under our will). Dieting and exercise fall under the voluntary weight loss while involuntary weight loss occurs when our immune system is attacked by external agents, for example if you got fever and temporarily lose weight, then such type of weight loss is involuntary. Weight loss related with cancer, malnutrition and other illness are also involuntary weight loss.
Medically, Weight loss has been defined as a reduction of total body weight, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and/or lean mass, namely bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue.
Types of weight loss: As I previously mentioned weight loss may be either voluntary or involuntary, it can be broadly classified into two main categories:
1.Unintentional weight loss:
It refers to the decrease in our body weight that is not under our control. Unintentional weight loss is equivalent to involuntary weight loss. It occurs when our body fails to function properly due to some illness, acute or chronic. Some of the main causes of unintentional weight loss can be listed as follows:
A.Chronic diarrhoea, that lasts for a long time
B.AIDS
C.Cancer
D.Depression, anxiety, stress and anorexia(loss of appetite)
E.Malnutrition
F.Smoking
G.Infection
H.Drugs including chemotherapeutic agents(also causes hair loss), Amphetamines(used most often in the past), Accomplia, laxative abuse, and some herbal drugs and thyroid medications.
I.Hyperthyroidism and hormonal imbalance
J.Diabetes
Well these are the most often causes of unintentional weight loss. But I am pretty sure that you people won't give a shit for unintentional weight loss because that doesn't last forever and is for short interval of time until the illness is gone. At this situation you might check into the other type that can help you to have a sustainable weight loss.
2.Intentional weight loss:
Yeah!!! it's the intentional weight loss that we are here to talk about and will be mainly focused throughout the entire blog. It refers to the decrease in our body weight that is under our control. Intentional weight loss is equivalent to voluntary weight loss. Here you first make plans for losing weight and finally execute it. Exercising and dieting falls under this category. Here one tries to throw out the stored reserves of unnecessary fats and muscle. Doing more work and spending much more energy than we gain from our normal diet is the main concern of intentional weight loss. By doing this one can easily catabolise and burn the stored reserve of unnecessary fats and muscle. Intentional weight loss from healthy food (see more on Weight Loss Diet) and exercise (see more on Weight Loss Exercise) can reduce the chances of person having severe heart disesase, high blood pressure, gall stones and even cancer, thereby, decreasing the risk of one's death. Thus it is the Intentional weight loss that you should look forward to.
